Larry Lee Phelps
Larry Lee Phelps, 55, of Richview died at 7:42 a.m. Monday, Dec. 4, 2006, in rural Mt. Vernon. Mr. Phelps was born Dec. 8, 1950, in Marion County, son of Charles Alva and Wilma (Bartelmey) Phelps. He married Vera Woolever on Oct. 10, 1970, and she survives in Richview. In addition to his wife, Mr. Phelps is survived by his mother,m Wilma Phelps of Richview; three daughters, Angela Van Buskirk of Wlkville, Lisa Jones and husband Ken of Sandoval and Misty Eskridge and husband Johnathon of New Mexico; two brothers, Richard Phelps of Collinsville and Bob Phelps and wife Janice of Childersburg, Ala.; two sisters, Bonnie Sheets of Wood River and Barbara Nelson of Orange, California; 11 grandchildren and one great-grandchild. One of the grandchildren, Adam Charles Hughes, was raised in their home. He was preceded in death by his father and two sisters, Betty Jo Phelps and Wilma Darlene Phelps. Mr. Phelps was an engineer for the Burlington Northern Santa Fe Railroad for 11 years. He attended Woodlawn High School and Rend Lake College and was a Vietnam veteran, serving from 1970 to 1972 in the Army 101st Airborne Division. He was an avid hunter and fisherman. Services will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday at Osborn Funeral Home in Dix with the Rev. Steve Edwards officiating. Interment will follow at Boyd Cemetery, where military rites will be accorded by American Legion Post 141 of Mt. Vernon. Friends may call from 5 to 8 p.m. today at the funeral home.Memorials may be made to Calvary Apostolic United Pentecostal Church Building Fund and will be accepted by the funeral home.
