Richard C. Phelps
Richard C. Phelps, 66, of Collinsville, died at 6:06 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 12, 2008, at St. Elizabeth's Hospital in Belleville. He was born May 28, 1941, in Chicago, the son of Charles Alva and Wilma (Bartelmey) Phelps. Mr. Phelps is survived by his mother; the mother of his children, Billie Ferrell; four daughters, Robin Hunter and husband Josh of Collinsville, Beth Eileen Miesner of Collinsville, Donna Jane Cooper and husband Tony of Shiloh and Amy Lynn Hall of Collinsville; a brother, Robert J. Phelps of Childersburg, Ala.; two sisters, Bonnie Jean Sheets of Woodriver and Barbara J. Nelson of Orange, Calif.; seven grandchildren, Christina Phelps, Timothy and Andrew Shaffer, Dustin Hall, Mackenzie and Joshua Hunter, and Isaiah Martin; and one great-grandchild, Leo Morris. He was preceded in death by his father; a brother, Larry Phelps; two infant sisters, Betty Jo Phelps and Wilma Darlene Phelps; and a brother-in-law, C. Darrell Sheets. Mr. Phelps was the owner/qperator of Collinsville Auto Body Shop for 26 years, and was an avid fisherman. He was a loving father, son, brother, grandfather, and great-grandfather. Services will be held at 1 p.m. Wednesday at Osborn Funeral Home in Dix. Interment will follow at Boyd Cemetery. Friends may call from 4 to 8 p.m. Tuesday at Herr Funeral Home in Collinsville, or from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Wednesday at Osborn Funeral Home in Dix.
