Lena Phillips, 90, Route 6 and late of American Beauty Nursing Home in West Frankford, died 6:35 am May 8, 1988, in Union Hospital in West Frankfort. Mrs. Phillips was born June 21, 1897, in Poseyville, Ind., a daughter of Charles and Katie (Dawson) Howell. Oct. 9, 1916, in Chicago, she married Eldon Bryan Phillips, who died June 15, 1978. Services will be 1 pm Wednesday at Hughey Funeral Home with the Rev Loy Shaw and the Rev. Neil Davis officiating. Burial will follow in Hopewell Cemetery. Friends may call after 6 pm Tuesday at the funeral home. Mrs. Phillips is survived by three daughters, Mrs. Rev. Bert (Ruth) Hale of Bonnie, Mrs. Bill (Claudia) Wayman of Live Oak, Fla., and Mrs. Elmer (Pauline) Hopper of Mt. Vernon; 10 grandchildren; 19 great-grandchildren; one great-great-grand-child and eight nephews. Mrs. Phillips was a member of Bonnie Church of God and attended the Northside Church in Mt. Vernon for several years. She worked in private homes as a private duty nurse until retirement. Mrs. Phillips was preceded in death by her husband; parents; two brother, Arthur Howell and Harold Howell; and one sister, Lillie Warren.
