Walter E. Piercy
Walter E. Piercy, 82, Route 5, died at 7:20 a.m. today at his home. Mr. Piercy, a retired farmer, was born in Jefferson County on September 10, 1899, the son of Henry and Susan (Fiser) Piercy. On June 24, 1918, in Mt. Vernon, he married Ora B. Elliston, who survives. In addition to his wife, Mr. Piercy is survived by five sons, Vernor R. Piercy, Sargent, Texas, Clarence E. Piercy, Oklahoma City, Oklahoma, Leroy Piercy, Mt. Vernon, William E. Piercy, Tuscola, Robert W, Piercy, Houston, Texas; three daughters, Louise Bruce and Katherine Toney, both of Mt. Vernon, and Elsie L. Parker, Fairview Heights; six sisters, Ida Carpenter, Las Vegas, Nev., Lillie Marlow, Faye Poorman, Nellie Sheldon, all of Woodlawn, Ada Harvey, Dix and Mae Harvey, Geneva. In addition, he is survived by 21 grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren. Mr. Piercy who was of the Pentecostal Faith, was preceded in death by his parents, four brothers; two sisters; one son; and one grandson. Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Wednesday at the Osborn Funeral Home in Dix, with the Rev. Don Johnston and the Rev. Mike Van Briston officiating. Burial will follow at the Boyd Cemetery in Dix. Visitation will be after 6 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home.
