James E. "Jim" Pilcher
James E. "Jim" Pilcher, 63, of Mt. Vernon died 2:00 a.m. Friday Jan. 20, 2006, at St. Mary's Good Samaritan Hospital in Mt. Vernon. He worked for many years as a Meat cutter for several grocery stores in the Mt. Vernon area and worked for Flo-Gas as a driver until failing health. Mr. Pilcher was born April 26, 1942 in Fairfield, IL to Edward and Janie (Simpson) Pilcher. He married Roxie (Garrett) on December 27, 1960; She survives in Mt. Vernon. Graveside Funeral services will be held 1 p.m. Monday at East Salem Baptist Cemetery in rural Mt. Vernon. Rev. Richard McCormick will officiate. Friends may call from 4 to 8 p.m. Sunday at Newell Funeral Home in Mt. Vernon. Mr. Pilcher is survived by a son, Shawn Pilcher and wife Sandra of Mt. Vernon, IL; Three daughters, Tina and husband Bruce Simmons of Texico, IL, Kim and husband Roy Bruce of Mt. Vernon, IL, Jamie Pilcher of Mt. Vernon, IL; one brother, Lewis Pilcher and wife Shirley of Fairfield, IL; one sister, Kay and husband Eldon Paul of Mexico, MO; two granddaughters, Ashley Bruce and special friend Justin Garrison, Brittany Pilcher; three grandsons, Dustin, Corey Simmons, and Tommy Bruce; and one great granddaughter Dylan Garrison. He was preceded in death by his parents, one infant sister Patsy Pilcher, and three brothers, Bill, Gene and Jack Pilcher. Mr. Pilcher served his country in the Army National Guard for fourteen years earning rank of Sergeant E5. For those who wish, memorials may be given to the Donor's Choice and will be accepted at the funeral home or may be mailed to Newell Funeral Home, 2707 North Street, Mt. Vernon, IL 62864.
