JAMES RAYMOND PIPER, 74, HANGS SELF IN BARN James Raymond PIPER ended his life late yesterday afternoon by hanging himself in the rear room of his barn in Shiloh TOWNSHIP, a short distance West of Mt. Vernon. His age was 74y5m7d. The body was found by his niece, Ethel KELLEY, who made her home with him. Mr. PIPER had been in ill health for some time and recently became despondent over his condition. After a brief inquiry today, Coroner Ben ROEDER returned a verdict of suicide. Funeral services will be held Sunday at 2 p.m. at West Salem Church, conducted by Dr. George P. RUTLEDGE, and burial will follow in West Salem Cemetery. The body will lie in state at Myers Chapel until the funeral hour. Mr. PIPER, a farmer, was born December 27, 1868 in Jefferson County, the son of William R. and Mary (BULLOCK) PIPER. He was united in marriage with Mae LEMKE who preceded him in death. Mr. PIPER is survived by one daughter, Mrs. Grace DYCUS of Woodlawn and a sister, Mrs. Ada DAVIS of Mt. Vernon.
