Ida Belle Porter, 72, of Plainview and a former Mt. Vernon resident, died at 8:20 pm Sunday in the Carlinville Area Hospital in Carlinville.

She was born July 13, 1905 in Ashley, the daughter of Henry and Katie (Newman) Soper.

She married Morris Porter, April 5, 1924 in Mt. Vernon and he preceded her in death on December 3, 1967.

She was a member of the Hopewell United Methodist Church.

Funeral services will be held Wednesday at 1:30 pm at the Hopewell United Methodist Church. Burial will be in the Hopewell Cemetery.

Visitors may call at the Osborn Funeral Home in Dix after 5 pm Tuesday.

She is survived by one son, Robert Porter, Goldsboro, N.C.; one daughter, Mrs. Marjorie Haley, Plainview; one brother, Charlie Soper, Vienna; three sisters, Mrs. Terry (Edith) Marlin, Mt. Vernon, Mrs. Laura Gibson, Mt. Vernon and Mrs. Carris McCall, Vienna; six grandchildren and one great-grandchild.

She was preceded in death by her husband, parents, one sister and four brothers.
