Lester Ratliff, 93, Mt. Vernon, died 6:30 am July 21, 1992, at Good Samaritan Regional Health Center.

Mr. Ratliff was a farmer.

He was born Nov. 18, 1898, in Jefferson County, a son of Richard Lewis and Christianne (McClure) Ratliff.

Services will be 1 pm Saturday at Osborn Funeral Home, Dix, with the Rev. Olen Weatherford officiating. Burial will follow in Hopewell Cemetery. Friends may call 5 to 7 pm Friday at the funeral home.

Survivors include two nieces, Evelyn Cassel of Mt. Vernon and Helen Engstrom of Palos Hills; one sister-in-law, Cora Ratliff of Mt. Vernon; and several grandnieces and grandnephews.

Mr. Ratliff served with a U.S. Navy construction battalion during World War II.

He was a member of Zion United Methodist Church. He attended Forest Hill School.

He was preceded in death by his parents; three brothers, Walter H. Ratliff of Chicago, Dr. Ed. B. Ratliff of Springfield and Richard M. Ratliff of Mt. Vernon; and one sister, Norma Ratliff of Mt. Vernon.
