Kelley Rector
Kelley Rector, 94, of Mt. Vernon, Illinois passed away at 1:20 P.M. on Tuesday, October 28, 2008 at Mt. Vernon Countryside Manor in Mt. Vernon, Illinois. He was born on Sunday, October 18, 1914 in Field Township in Jefferson County, Illinois the son of the late Arley and Agnes (Sheibly) Rector. He married Blanche (Thompson) Flanagan on November 21, 1964 in Mt. Vernon, Illinois. He is survived by his Wife: Blanche Rector of Mt. Vernon, Illinois; 3 Daughters: Sharon Leffler and husband Don of Mt. Vernon, Illinois, Quanette Hayes of West Monroe, Louisana and Sandie Holloway and husband Gary of Opdyke, Illinois; 3 Sons: Don Rector and wife Dixie of Opdyke, Illinois, Bobby Rector and wife Pam of Athens, Illinois and Cliffton Flanagan and wife Jane of Monroe, Louisiana; 14 Grandchildren: Rick Leffler and wife Rene’ of Sun Prairie, Wisconsin, Randy Leffler and wife Diane of Mt. Vernon, Illinois, Angie Whipple and husband John of Belle Rive, Illinois, Misty Baker and husband Tim of Festus, Missouri, Eric Rector and wife Allison of Athens, Illinois, Brian Rector and wife Helen of Cantrall, Illinois, Leslie Ortiz and husband Beto of Albuquerque, New Mexico, Heather Lemons and husband Jeff of Mt. Vernon, Illinois, Beth Rector of Albuquerque, New Mexico, Amanda Fuller and husband David of Mt. Vernon, Illinois, Kelli Hayes of West Monroe, Louisana, C.C. Flanagan and wife Annette of Monroe, Louisiana, Cindy Matthews of Monroe, Louisiana and Jeff Flanagan and wife Roxanne of Monroe, Louisiana; Sister: Vaneta Corbin of Villa Grove, Illinois; Daughter-in-law: Louise Rector of Albuquerque, New Mexico; 19 Great Grandchildren; 3 Great Great Grandchildren; Several Nieces and Nephews also survive. His parents, one son: Richard Rector, 4 brothers and 2 sisters preceded him in death. FACTS: Kelley raised hogs prior to working 20 years at the Mt. Vernon Car Shops. Following that he ran the Union 76 filling station at 5th and Main Streets in Mt. Vernon for 20 years prior to retirement and was a member of the Mt. Vernon Church of Christ. He loved talking about his family's history, his friends, the "Good Ole Days" and always has a story to tell; he loved fox and coyote hunting, was a member of the Jefferson County Fox Chasers Association and he bowled for many years. ARRANGEMENTS: FUNERAL SERVICE: will be held at 10:00 A.M. Friday, October 31, 2008 at Hughey Funeral Home in Mt. Vernon, Illinois. Mr. Bob Karnoski will officiate. INTERMENT: Union Chapel Cemetery in Jefferson County, Illinois. VISITATION: will be held from 5 to 8:00 P.M. Thursday, October 30, 2008 at Hughey Funeral Home in Mt. Vernon, Illinois. For those who wish, memorials may be given to the Mt. Vernon Church of Christ and will be accepted at the funeral home or may be mailed to Hughey Funeral Home, P.O. Box 721, Mt. Vernon, Illinois 62864.
