Simeon (Sims) Rhynes
Simeon (Sims) Rhynes, son of William and Elizabeth (Nancy) Harris Rhynes was born at Cumberland Tennessee April 20, 1844 died at his home in Elk Prairie, Jefferson County Il on March 27, 1929 at the age of 83 years nine months and 7 days. At age 14 he came to this county where he resided the remainder of his life. March 9, 1866 he was united in marriage with Margaret West. To this union were born ??? children only one of whom, William Rhynes, Liberty Road, Mt Vernon, survives. On Dec 14, 1878 he married Minerva Shehorn. Five children were born to this marriage, all of whom together with their mother survive. They are John Riley of Ina, Winfield Scott and Thomas Oakley who have always resided with their parents, Walter Lee residing near Nason, Il and Mrs Leta ( Aaron) Barker of Tamaroa. At an early age he became a member of the Presbyterian Church and lived a consistant faithful Christian throughout his life. Death came suddenly and without suffering as he sat in a chair at his home talking to one of his sons. He was very active for his age and although he had ceased some time ago to do the heavy work of the farm which required strong muscles, he continued to perform the lighter chores and odd jobs which must always be done on a general farm such as he and his sons owned. He had spent almost his entire life in the section where he died, and was one of the countys most reapected citizens. Burial was at Abner Cemetery, Nason, Il. Mr Rhynes is also survived by three brothers.
