Eva L. (Staley) Sanders
Eva L. Sanders, 85, of Mt. Vernon died 6:12 a.m. Oct. 6, 2006, at her home. She was a homemaker and a retired cook at Austins Restaurant in Dix. She was born in Rochelle on Sept. 10, 1921, to Roy Staley and Clara Keele. On Sept. 9, 1939, she married in Mt. Vernon to Cortland Sanders; he preceded her in death on Jan. 22, 1978. She was a member of Pleasant Hill Baptist Church, where she was a faithful attender. She loved her family and was a caregiver to her sister and mother-in-law. She enjoyed gardening, flowers and the outdoors. Services are set for 11 a.m. Monday at Osborn Funeral Home in Dix. The Rev. Jack Lucas is officiating. Burial will be in Pleasant Hill Cemetery. Visitation is set for 5 to 8 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home. Memorials may be made to the Leukemia Society or Pleasant Hill Family Life Center and will be received at the funeral home or mailed to Osborn Funeral Home, P.O. Box 130, Dix, IL, 62830. Survivors include son Roger Sanders of Mt. Vernon; daughter Brenda White and husband Darrell of Evansville, Ind.; grandchildren Derek Sanders of Mt. Vernon, Krystal Thurman and husband Brad of Salem, Linda Sanders of Florida, Leslie King and husband Daniel of Evansville, Ind., and Jeff White of Pheonix, Ariz.; great-grandchildren Emily King, Ethan King and Benjamin King, all of Evansville, Ind., Becky Beckham and Jesse Beckham, both of Dahlgren, and one expected, Breanna Nicole Thurman; sister Freda Staley of Dix; and sister-in-law Marjorie Lee of Dix. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, son Gale Sanders and brother Leonard Staley.
