Dr. Bert W. Schmitt
DR. SCHMITT, DENTIST, DIES Dr. Bert W. Schmitt, 801 North 12th Street, died at 8:38 pm Tuesday at Good Samaritan Hospital at the age of 67. The death of the popular and well-known dentist came after a short illness and was a shock and surprise to his friends. He was active in his office practice until only three weeks ago. Funeral arrangements are incomplete at Myers Chapel. Dr. Schmitt was born on June 19, 1902, the son of William A. and Cora (Morgan) Schmitt. The family for many years operated an automobile parts supply company in Mt. Vernon and the father served as a township and county official. On October 26, 1924 he married Helen Johnson. She survives. Dr. Schmitt graduated from St. Louis University College of Dentistry in 1925 and began his practice in Mt. Vernon in August of that year. He was a member of the Masons, Modern Woodsmen, and the Dental Society. Besides his wife, he is survived by a daughter, Janet Carlson of Kankakee; a son, Wlliam R. Schmitt of Montague, Mich.; a brother, Arthur E. Schmitt of Mt. Vernon; and eight grandchildren.
