Leonard Nelson Scott
L. N. Scott, a retired school teacher and former County Clerk, died at 10:30 pm Friday at the home of his daughter, Mrs. Guy A. Wood, Sr. His age was 79 years, 1 month and 19 days. Funeral services will be held Monday at 2:30 pm at Myers chapel, with the Rev. M. A. Souers officiating. Burial will be in Oakwood cemetery. The body will remain at Myers Chapel, where friends may call at any time, after 2:00 pm Sunday. Mr. Scott was born October 28, 1870, in Marlow, illinois, the son of John and Sarah (Marlow) Scott. He was a lifetime member of the Methodist church and was always very ative in church and community life. His grandparents were pioneer residents of Jefferson county and the town of Marlow was named after them. Mr. Scott was a teacher in county schools for more than twenty-five years and served as principal in Mt. Vernon schools, being principal of Lincoln, Horace Mann and Franklin schools, and resigned from the latter when he was elected county clerk in 1918. On December 25, 1892, he was united in marriage to Evelyn Wilkerson, who preceded him in death May 1942. Surviving him are four daughters: Mrs. Guy A. Wood, of MT. Vernon; Mrs. Maude hayes of Springfield, Illinois; Mrs. J. E. Nall of Louisville, Kentucky; and Mrs. Ferne Lacey of Los Angeles, California; a son Proctor Scott preceded him in death in May 1943. Also surviving are two brothers; Arthur Scott of Marlow and W. T. Scott of Bluford; one sister, Mrs. Mabel Wilkerson, of Mt. Vernon.
