Bertram A. “Bert” Sechrest Jr., 43, of Granite City, passed away at 5:45 a.m. Monday, June 21, 2010, at his home.

He was born in Granite City on Jan. 26, 1967, the son of Bertram Adrian Sechrest Sr. and Jeanette (Copland) Sechrest.

He married Heather Wells on Oct. 22, 1995, in Granite City.

Graveside services will be held at 10 a.m. Friday at Hopewell Cemetery in Jefferson County with the Rev. Tim Gill officiating. Full military honors will be conducted by the American Legion Post 141. Interment will follow. Visitation will be from 5 to 7 p.m. Thursday at Hughey Funeral Home in Mt. Vernon.

Bert is survived by his wife, Heather Sechrest of Granite City; son, Tyler Sechrest of Desoto, Mo.; three daughters, Sadie Sechrest of Desoto, Mo., Emma Sechrest of Granite City and Erica Sechrest of Granite City; Three sisters, Susan Gibbear and husband Mark of Bunker Hill, Sonja Stewart and husband Jeff of Bunker hill and Ullona Mathews and husband Chris of Florissant, Mo.; his grandmother, Lillie White of Granite City; and several nieces and nephews.

His parents preceded him in death.

Bert served the United States Army. We worked for Petroff Trucking in Collinsville and was a member of the Eagles in Granite City.
