Bobbie Malcom Sechrest

Bobbie Malcom Sechrest, 82, of Mt. Vernon, passed away at 8:30 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 16, 2008, at the Veterans Affairs Medical Center in Marion.

Bobbie was born Sunday Jan. 17, 1926, in Mt. Vernon, the son of Joel Emanuel and Florence Dorcus (McDuffy) Sechrest.

He married Dorothy Marie Gossage on Aug. 28, 1948, in Mt. Vernon.

In honor of his wishes, Bobbie will be cremated and burial of cremated remains will be held at a later date with Rev. Gale Breeze officiating. The family will receive friends from 1 to 3 p.m. Sunday, Oct. 19, at Hughey Funeral Home in Mt. Vernon. Rev. Gale Breeze will conclude the visitation with a prayer at 3 p.m. Inurnment will be at Hopewell Cemetery in Jefferson County. Members of Mt. Vernon American Legion Post 141 will conduct full military honors at the cemetery.

Bobbie is survived by wife Dorothy Marie Sechrest of Mt. Vernon; four sons, Jeff Sechrest of Mt. Vernon, Bobby Sechrest and wife Rebecca of Dana, David Sechrest and wife Susan of Dana and Donald Sechrest and wife Robin of Dana; a daughter, Doris Petri and husband Ritchie of Pontiac; a sister Mary Sechrest of Lakeland; and 25 grandchildren, 28 great-grandchildren and two great-great-grandchildren. Several nieces and nephews also survive.

His parents; one daughter, Peggy Palmer; one son, Joel Sechrest; five brothers and one sister preceded him in death.

Bobbie was a World War II veteran of the U.S. Army Air Corps, a chair builder for the Pontiac Chair Company, a deacon at Harmony Missionary Baptist Church, a lifetime member of the NRA and a member of the Goshen Trail Long Rifle Club.
