Ullon A. (Jack) Sechrest, 78, of Mt. Vernon died 2:25 pm April 14, 1997, at his home.

He was retired from Good Samaritan Regional Health Center as foreman of maintenance for 15 years.

Mr. Sechrest was born May 24, 1918, in Jefferson County, a son of Verney G. Martha E. (Tate) Sechrest.

He married Vera Weller at Troy, Mo., in 1938; she died in 1956.

He then married Chestine Bradley Rogers at Troy, Mo., in 1972, and she died Feb. 2, 1984.

He married Opal L. Ratliff in June, 1984, and she survives.

Services will be 1 pm Wednesday at the Hughey Funeral Home with the Rev. Clifford Hicks and Rev. Melvin Larson officiating. Burial will be in Hopewell Cemetery. Military services will be conducted by American Legion Post 141 of Mt. Vernon. Friends may call from 5 to 8 pm today at the Hughey Funeral Home.

Mr. Sechrest is survived by his wife, Opal L. Sechrest of Mt. Vernon; two daughters, Vera Jean Bloomquist and Larry of Granite City and Lois Elaine Tetrault of Wichita, Kan.; two sons, Gregory Sechrest and Janet of Marble Hill, Mo., and Michael Sechrest of Mt. Vernon; three stepdaughters, Theresa White and Mark of Belle Rive, Angela Hart and Mike of Opdyke and Rita Ratliff of Mt. Vernon; one stepson, Randall Ratliff and wife Valarie of Belle Rive; 19 grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; mother-in-law Myrtle Richardson of Mt. Vernon; three brothers, Earl Sechrest of Fairbury, Hal Sechrest and wife Fern of Opdyke and Donald Sechrest and Jerry of Mt. Vernon; two sisters, Lois Throgmorton of Mt. Vernon and Beulah Opal Eller of Centralia; and several nieces and nephews.

He was a member of Oak Grove Missionary Baptist Church. He was a veteran of the Navy Air Corps, serving during World War II. He was a member of American Legion Post 141 of Mt. Vernon, Modern Woodmen of America Camp 1919 of Mt. Vernon, Jefferson Lodge 368 AF & AM at Opdyke, Andrew D. Webb Chapter 160 of Mt. Vernon, Patton Commandery 69 Knights Templar, Ainad Shrine Temple of East St. Louis, Jefferson County Shrine Club and the National Association of Civilian Conservation Corps Alumni.

Mr. Sechrest was preceded in death by his parents; two wives; sons, Robert Sechrest and Bertram Sechrest; sisters, Minnie Smith, Vernie E. Keen and Kathryn Baker; and two brothers, Alonzo and Albert Sechrest.
