Sylvia E. Shehorn, 73, of Mt. Vernon, died at 10:29 a.m. Sunday, Feb.13, 2011, at Crossroads Community Hospital in Mt. Vernon.

She was born March 7, 1937, in Mt. Vernon, a daughter of Arthur Daniels and Effie (Cooper) Daniels.

She first married James Bowdler and he preceded her in death in 1971.

She then married Arvol Shehorn hand he preceded her in death in 1985.

Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. Wednesday at Hughey Funeral Home in Mt. Vernon with the Rev. Bud Storey officiating. Visitation will be from 5 to 7 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home. Interment will be at Hopewell Cemetery in Jefferson County.

Sylvia is survived by two sons, Jeff Bowdler of Brookport and James Bowdler and wife Raven of Opdyke; four daughters, Barbara Friedman and husband Terry of Mt. Vernon, Susan Stroud and husband John of Ina, Teresa Bowdler of Mt. Vernon and Frances Presswood and husband Kevin of DuQuoin; 25 grandchildren; 32 great-grandchildren; niece, Carolyn Sue Barnfield of Texico; and nephew, Charles Lee Hickey and wife Pat of Texico.

She was preceded in death by her parents; both husbands; granddaughter, Sherry Poston; and great-granddaughter, Jasmine Nicole Hawkins.

Sylvia was a past member of the Zion United Methodist Church.
