Ruth Ellen Shelton, 90, of Mt. Vernon died 8:06 a.m. June 2, 1998, at Mt. Vernon Care Center.

She was associated with her husband in ministry of the Christ Gospel Chapel for many years.

Mrs. Shelton was born Nov 29, 1907, in Jefferson County, a daughter of Jesse and Laura (Holloway) Bond.

June 21, 1924, in Mt. Vernon, she married the Rev. George Henry Shelton, who died July 19, 1982.

Services will be 1 PM Thursday at the Hughey Funeral Home with the Rev. Paul Copeland officiating. Burial will be in Kirk Cemetery, Ina. Friends may call from 5 - 8 PM today at the Hughey Funeral Home.

Mrs. Shelton is survived by one daughter, Marjorie Schuchardt and husband Glen of Mt Vernon; four grandchildren, Randy Depoister of Springfield, Mo., Cindy McBryar and husband Frank of Bryan, Ala., Daonna Depoister Start and husband Andrew of Minneapolis and Janice Shelton of Mt. Vernon; great-grandchildren, Christy McBryar and Tracy McBryar; daughter-in-law, Pat Shelton of Mt. Vernon; and several nieces and nephews.

Mrs. Shelton was preceded in death by her parents; husband; one son, David L. Shelton; one sister; and four brothers.

She was a member of Christ Gospel Chapel.
