D. W. Shinn
D. W. Shinn, 76 years old, died at his home at 716 Tenth street yesterday afternoon. Mr. Shinn was an "eighty-niner" and a confederate veteran. He was born in Tennessee and served throughout the war under General John Morgan. Mr. Shinn came to Oklahoma from Howard, Kansas, where he was living at the time the country was thrown open for settlement. He located at Guthrie until the Sac and Fox country was opened, when he settled on a claim near Agra, Okla. He lived there until about a year ago, when he sold out and moved to Oklahoma City. He is survived by five sons, G.T. Shinn of Mount Vernon, Ill., Frank Shinn of Elgin, Kansas, Walter Shinn of Agra, Ollie Shinn of Oklahoma City, Harry Shinn of Agra, and two daughters, Mrs. Orea Atherton of Oklahoma City and Mrs. Ella Maddox of Benzaar, Kansas. The body will be sent to Agra today for burial beside his wife, who died there six years.
