William O. Shurtz Dies At Age 78 Here On Monday

William O. Shurtz, 78, of Mt. Vernon, died at 5:22 a.m. Monday at the Mt. Vernon Tuberculosis Sanitarium.

Funeral services will be held in the Knob Prairie cemetery. The body will lie in state at the Fry Funeral Home, where friends may call after 4:00 p.m. today.

Mr. Shurtz was a retired core driller.

He was born May 1, 1890, in Jefferson county, the son of James and Sarah (Duffer) Shurtz.

He is survived by one son, Dallas Shurtz, of Green Bay, Wis,; one daughter, Mrs. Marcella Cann; of Harvey, Ill.; one sister, Mrs. Grace Hodge, of Mt. Vernon; four grandchildren and six great grandchildren.
