Mable L. Simmons, 89, of Mt. Vernon died 5:22 p.m. Jan. 11, 2005, at St. Mary’s Good Samaritan Hospital in Mt. Vernon.

She was a homemaker.

Mrs. Simmons was born Nov. 28, 1915, in Pope County to Walter and Ella (Lewis) McCormick.

She married Francis M. Simmons Sept. 28, 1946, in Vienna; he died March 23, 1994.

Funeral services will be held 10:30 a.m. Friday at Hughey Funeral Home in Mt. Vernon. The Rev. Mike Steed will officiate. Burial will follow at New Shiloh Cemetery in rural Jefferson County. Friends may call from 5 to 8 p.m. Thursday at Hughey Funeral Home in Mt. Vernon.

Mrs. Simmons is survived by a daughter, Sharon Yearwood and husband Steve of Mt. Vernon; grandsons Jarrod Yearwood and wife Amanda of Mt. Vernon and Jordan Yearwood of Mt. Vernon; and several nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; two brothers, Carlos McCormick and C.L. McCormick; and three sisters, Madge Lay, Nellie Martin and Mildred Newton.

Mrs. Simmons was a member of Second General Baptist Church, Eastern Star in Stonefort and was a past Brownie and Girl Scout leader.
