Nora (Carpenter) Simmons
Nora Simmons, 78, of Dix died 7:05 p.m. October 6, 1997, at St. Mary's Hospital in Centralia. Mrs. Simmons was retired from the State of Illinois T.B. Sanitarium in Mt. Vernon. Born August 4, 1919, in Woodlawn, she was a daughter of John and Lena (Piercy) Carpenter. She was married in Mt. Vernon by Judge Morris DeWitt to Harold Simmons on April 12, 1935. He survives. Services will be 10 a.m. Thursday at Osborn Funeral Home in Dix with Randy Sells officiating. Burial will be in Boyd Cemetery. Friends may call 6 to 9 p.m. today at the funeral home. Mrs. Simmons attended Boyd School and was a member of the Boyd Christian Church. In addition to her husband, survivers include two sons, Larry Simmons and Wayne Simmons, both of Mt. Vernon, six grandchildren, 10 great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, three sisters, Viola Tinsley, Ethel Meadows, and Evelyn Wray; and a brother Jim Carpenter.
