Doris (Bumpus) Sinks
Doris Sinks, 82, of Mt. Vernon died at 9:42 p.m. Thursday, Jan. 11, 2007, at the Mt. Vernon Health Care Center. She was born Aug. 25, 1924, in East Chicago, Ind., daughter to Roscoe and Jennie (Wininger) Bumpus. On Nov. 10, 1943, she married Clyde Everett Sinks in Mt. Vernon, and he preceded her in death on Jan. 20, 2006. Services will be held at 1 p.m. Sunday at Hughey Funeral Home in Mt. Vernon with Gilbert Daniels and Robby King officiating. Interment will follow at West Salem Cemetery in Mt. Vernon. Visitation will be from 5 to 7 p.m. Saturday at the funeral home. Mrs. Sinks had retired as a secretary to the superintendent of Mt. Vernon Township High School. She was also a secretary for Fields, Goldman and McGee Architects in Mt. Vernon for several years prior. She was a member of South Hickory Hill Christian Church in Mt. Vernon. Survivors include two daughters, Sharon Terry and husband Mark and Anita Hays and husband Steve, both of Mt. Vernon; four grandchildren, Megan Kelly and husband Brian, Craig Terry and Stephanie Hays, all of St. Louis, and Ryan Hays of Mt. Vernon; three brothers, Jack Bumpus and wife Sherry of Mt. Vernon, Delbert Bumpus and wife Roberta of Ocala, Fla., and Floyd Bumpus and wife Greta of Mt. Vernon; and several nephews and nieces. In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by her parents and a sister, Jeannine Dunn. Memorials may be made to the Alzheimer’s Association and will be accepted at the funeral home.
