Eloise (Stelle) Sledge
Eloise Stelle SLEDGE, 63, St. Louis, and a former resident of Mt. Vernon and Centralia, died at 1:26 p.m. Wednesday in Barnes Hospital in St. Louis. Mrs. SLEDGE was employed for several years at the Jefferson County Draft Board. She was born in Mt. Vernon July 2, 1919, the daughter of Clarence A. and Helen (WEBB) STELLE. Graveside services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Saturday at Oakwood Cemetery with the Rev. Richard H. HUGHES officiating. Friends may call after 6:00 p.m. Friday and until 10 a.m. Saturday at the Hughey Funeral Home. Those attending are asked to go directly to the cemetery. Memorial may be made to a favorite charity. Mrs. SLEDGE was know throughout the area for her book reviews and as an artist whose works were shown all over Southern Illinois. She was very active in the First Baptist Church of Centralia where she taught Sunday School for many years, and in the Girl Scouts of America. She was a member of the Shagbark Girl Scout Council No. 422. Survivors include one daughter, Mrs. Henry R. (Sherron Lynn) HAWKINS of Glendale, MO.; one grandson, Christopher R. PIPER of Glendale; one brother, Robert Duff STELLE of Fair Oaks, Calif.; two nephews, Steven R. STELLE of Felton, Calif. and Robert B. STELLE of Los Angeles; and five aunts, Opal WEBB, Mary WEBB and Ledlie WEBB, all of Mt. Vernon; Mrs. Betty ORE of HARVEY, and Mrs...... (This one was cut off.)
