Hazel B. Sledge, 95, of Mt. Vernon, passed away at 11:58 p.m. Sunday, June 1, 2008, at Countryside Manor in Mt. Vernon.

She was born in Jefferson County on May 25, 1913, a daughter of Hardin and Belle (McCord) Williams.

She was a homemaker.

Funeral services will be held 1 p.m. today at Richardson Funeral Home in Wayne City with the Rev. Dannie Bowling officiating. Burial will follow at Mt. Olive Cemetery.

Friends may call from 11 a.m. till 1. p.m. service time today at the funeral home.

Hazel is survived by a son, Charles Burke of Hammond, Ind.; step-daughters, Teddy Sauls of Mt. Vernon, Lois Greenwalt of Wayne City; Wanda Bowling of Fredricktown, Mo., Dorris Smith of Keenes and Millie Altman of Eusala, Ala.; several grandchildren and great-grandchildren; and special granddaughter, Vickie Sauls of Mt. Vernon.
