Earl L. C. Smith
Earl L. C. Smith, 76, of RFD 6, Mt. Vernon, died at 10:00 a.m.. today at Good Samaritan Hospital. For 20 years, Mr. Smith was associated with Benoist Hardware Store and for 10 years he was with the Mammoth Department Store. Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m. Thursday at Myers Chapel. Burial will be in Pleasant Grove cemetery. The body will lie in state at Myers Chapel where friends may call after 4:00 p.m. Wednesday. Mr. Smith was born December 21, 1887, in Jefferson county, the son of W. Harris and Louisa (Glassman) Smith. In 1916, he was married to Carrie Milburn who survives. He is also survived by two sons, Milburn H. Smith of Granite City, and Cranston D. Smith of Mt. Vernon; a brother, Fred Smith; a sister, Mrs. Ruby Jacobs, both of Mt. Vernon; and seven grandchildren. Mr. Smith was past superintendent of the Sunday School at Pleasant Grove Methodist church. He had served as president of the Burial Association.
