Arthur Smith Of Montier, Mo., Died At Age 78 The Rev. Arthur E. Smith, 78, Montier, Mo., died at 7 p.m. Sunday in St. Francis Hospital in Mountain View, Mo. He was a former Mt. Vernon resident. The Rev. Smith was born March 5, 1907, in Mt. Vernon, the son of Elvis and Ada (Palmer) Smith. He first married Mildred Reeder, she preceded him in death in 1975. He then married Alvena Smith, who survives. The funeral will be 1:30 p.m. Thursday in Duncan Funeral Home in Mountain View, Mo., with the Rev. Myron Aiken and the Rev. Johnnie Aiken officiating. Burial will follow in Montier Cemetery in Montier, Mo. Friends may call at the funeral home after 4 p.m. Wednesday. In addition to his second wife, he is survived by two sons, James F. Smith of Mt. Vernon and Ron Smith of Summerfield, Fla.; three brothers, Norvel and Lugene Smith, both of Mt. Vernon, and Gnell Smith of Vandalia; two sisters, Pauline Mifflin of Hammond, Ind., and Wathine Littrell of Mt. Vernon; six grandchildren and two great-grandchildren. He was a missionary and minister for approximately 50 years. He served as pastor for Full Gospel Tabernacle in Mt. Vernon. He was also a member of Turkey Oak Community Church. He was preceded in death by his parents, first wife, four brothers, three sisters, one son, Robert L. Smith, and one daughter, Roma June Smith.
