Ronald L. Smith
Ronald L. Smith, 77, of Mount Vernon, Illinois, passed away at 5:59 pm February 22, 2024 at SSM Health Good Samaritan Hospital in Mount Vernon. He was born August 18, 1946 in Mount Vernon to the late Mr. and Mrs. Smith. Ronald married Allura Linda (Lean) Smith on November 9, 1968. They were blessed with 54 years of marriage. Ronald is survived by his daughter, Tanya Eblen of Mount Vernon; sons, Curtis Smith and wife, Pam and Daniel O. Smith and wife, Laura, all of Mount Vernon; grandchildren, Amanda Sears and husband, Shawn, Robert Hayes, Jr. and wife, Beth, Emma Wynn and husband, Chad, Jacob Smith, Cale Smith, and Adrian Modglin; and great-grandchildren, Shae Sears, Sloan Sears, Peyton Hayes, Jace Hayes, Aspen Hayes, Lily Wynn, and Kainin Wynn. In addition to his parents and beloved wife, Ronald was preceded in death by his daughter, Leilani Hayes; and brothers, Steven Smith, Robin Smith, and Jim Smith. Ronald worked as a coal miner for 25 years. Alongside his wife, Ronald proudly served his community as the owner of Silver Streak Restaurant and Bar in Mount Vernon for 33 years. He was a proud member of the UMWA Coal Miners Union for 25 years and was also a member of the American Legion. Ronald was an excellent gardener, avid coin collector, and loved reading, especially about American History. He was a loving father and grandfather and will be deeply missed by all who knew and cared for him. At this time, no public services will be held.
