Mrs. Velma Smith Dies In Hospital Mrs. Velma (Roth) Smith, of 2200 Casey Avenue, died at 7:30 a.m. today at the Jefferson Memorial Hospital. Funeral arrangements are incomplete. The body has been taken to the Pulley-Gutzler Funeral Home. She was married to John H. Smith, who preceded her in death in 1948. (sic.) Mr. and Mrs. Smith formerly operated the Peerless Cleaners in this city.
Source: Mt. Vernon Register-News Funeral Friday For Velma Smith Funeral services for Mrs. Velma Smith will be held at 2:30 p.m. Friday at the Pulley-Gutzler Funeral Chapel with the Rev. Don Crocker officiating. Burial will be in Kirk cemetery near Ina. The body will lie in state at the Pulley-Gutzlcr Funeral Home where friends may call after 6:00 a.m. today. Mrs. Smith, 68, of 2200 Casey, died at 7:50 a.m. Wednesday at Jefferson Memorial Hospital. She was born Nov. 6. 1895, at Ina, the daughter of William and Mary (Fisher) Roth. On Dec. 25, 1922, she was married to John Smith, who preceded her in death in 1954. She was also preceded in death by her parents, a brother, and a sister. Survivors include two brothers, Cyril and Ralph Roth, both of St. Charles, Ill.; and three sisters, Mrs. Mary Laur, Mrs. Clela Slower, both of Mt. Vernon, and Mrs. Myrna Shaw of Benton. Mrs. Smith was a member of the First Methodist church. Her husband formerly operated the Peerless Cleaners business here.
