Mrs. Katie (Newman) Soper Dies at Age 77

Mrs. Katie Belle Soper, wife of Henry Soper, died at 9 a.m. today at her home northeast of Mt. Vernon. Her age was 77 years, 11 months and 22 days.

Mrs. Soper was born May 13, 1865 in Ashley, Ill., the daughter of John and Hester Ann (House) Newman.

On August 9, 1885 she was united in marriage with Henry Soper, who survives.

She was a member of Hopewell Church.

Funeral arrangements had not been completed today. However, the body will lie in state at Myers Chapel from 4 p.m. Thursday until the funeral hour.

Besides her husband, Mrs. Soper is survived by four sons, Harry B. of Budolph, Ill., Jesse E. of Vienna, Ill., John E. of Gallup, New Mexico and Charles B. of Belknap, Ill.; five daughters, Mrs. Gertrude M. Howard, Mrs. Laura B. Gibson, Mrs. Ida B. Porter and Mrs. Edith H. Marlin of Mt. Vernon and Mrs. Carrie E. McCall of Vienna, Ill.; 32 grandchildren and 10 great grandchildren.
