Richard F. Spotanski

Richard F. Spotanski, 87, of Mount Vernon, Illinois, passed away at 9:00 pm April 2, 2024 at Greentree Memory Care Center in Mount Vernon.

He was born March 23, 1937 in Ashley, Illinois to the late Carl J. and Helen Alice (Zamenski) Spotanski.

Richard married Joan (Skorch) Spotanski on April 19, 1958 in DuBois, Illinois. They were blessed with fifty-three years of marriage before she preceded him in death on June 23, 2011.

Richard is survived by his sons, Michael Spotanski and wife, Juanita of Edwardsville, Illinois, David Spotanski and wife, Sharon of Hyattsville, Maryland, and Steven Spotanski and wife, Stacy of Mount Vernon, Illinois; grandchildren, Matthew Spotanski and wife, Brittany of Granite City, Illinois, Elizabeth Loyet and husband, Brian of Marine, Illinois, Bradley Spotanski and wife, Karlie of Menifee, California, Erin Strausbaugh and husband, Joshua of Shiloh, Illinois, Jonathan Spotanski and wife, Lauren of Lewisville, Texas, James Spotanski and fiancée, Lindsay Seibel of San Diego, California, Maddy Fradelos of Edwardsville, Illinois, Emmy Fradelos and friend, Blaze Callahan of Ashley, Illinois, and Jaxon Spotanski of Mount Vernon, Illinois; great-grandchildren, Benjamin, Cody, and Aria Spotanski all of Granite City, Illinois, Mikey Loyet of Marine, Illinois, Avery Spotanski of Menifee, California, and Levi and Miles Strausbaugh both of Shiloh, Illinois; brothers, Charles Spotanski and wife, Judy of Ashley, Illinois and Larry Spotanski and wife, Marcella of DuBois, Illinois; sister, Linda Norris of Waltonville, Illinois; sister-in-law, Carolyn Hiller of Pinckneyville, Illinois; brother-in-law and sister-in-law, David and Laura Skorch of Mount Vernon, Illinois; and several nieces and nephews.

In addition to his parents and wife, Richard was preceded in death by his brothers-in-law, Martin Skorch and Alan Norris.

Richard worked at Security Bank, Dobbs Department Store, and finally retired from World Color Press. He was a member of Saint Mary Immaculate Conception Catholic Church and Knights of Columbus at Saint Mary Church. Richard was a gentleman and a gentle man. He was a proud and loving father, grandfather, and great-grandfather and will be dearly missed.

A Visitation will be held Monday, April 8, 2024 from 5:00 pm to 8:00 pm at Hughey Funeral Home in Mount Vernon, Illinois. A Visitation will be held Tuesday, April 9, 2024 from 9:00 am to 10:00 am at Saint Mary Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Mount Vernon, Illinois. A Funeral Mass will begin at 10:00 am. Interment will follow at St. Mary's Cemetery in Mount Vernon, Illinois.

Memorials may be made in Richard's honor to Saint Mary School or Alzheimer's Association.
