LeRoy Stewart
LeRoy Stewart, 67, of Woodlawn died 6:50 a.m. March 26, 2006, at his home. Mr. Stewart was born May 6, 1938, in Louisville, Ky., to Everett Lee and Mamie (Polston) Stewart. He married Frances Kay (Hatfield) Stewart March 8, 1958, in Chicago; she preceded him in death July 15, 2000. Funeral services will be held 10 a.m. Thursday at Hughey Funeral Home in Mt. Vernon. The Rev. Mike Burns will officiate. Burial will follow at Mt. Vernon Memorial Gardens. Friends may call from 5 to 8 p.m. Wednesday at Hughey Funeral Home in Mt. Vernon. Mr. Stewart is survived by a son, Roy Lee Stewart and wife Linda of Mt. Vernon; four daughters, Joyce Bechtel and husband Frank of Mt. Vernon, Judy McCoy and fiance Gary Hayes of Woodlawn, Janice Pilson and husband George of Bonnie and Jean Langa and husband Steve of Woodlawn; 13 grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; a sister-in-law, Maxine Stewart of Louisville, Ky.; and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Frances; four brothers; and a sister. Mr. Stewart was an avid Chicago Cubs fan and a member of the Mt. Vernon Gun and Sportsman Club. For those who wish, memorials may be given to the American Cancer Association and will be accepted at the funeral home or may be mailed to Hughey Funeral Home, P.O. Box 721, Mt. Vernon, IL 62864.
