Paul Stonecipher, 89, of Texico, husband of Dixie Ella Stonecipher, passed away at St. Mary’s Good Samaritan Hospital in Mt. Vernon, in the early hours of Saturday, May 23, 2009.

He was born Feb. 6, 1920, in Field Township of Jefferson County, by mother Jewel Stonecipher.

He was raised by grandparents William Louis and Etta Stonecipher.

Paul served his country as a member of the U.S. Army during World War II from Dec. 9, 1943 to May 8, 1946, and was stationed in Europe.

Upon his return, he married Dixie Ella Mulch on Jan 19, 1948.

He precedes her in death and leaves behind sons Larry Stonecipher and wife Brenda, who reside in Springfield, James Stonecipher and wife Lyn who reside in Swansea and John Stonecipher and wife Jarie, who reside in Newman. Their families include Paul’s grandchildren, Amanda, Samantha, Shane, Aaron Dale, Kylee and Georgia and three great- grandchildren. He is also survived by two twin sisters, Lottie Mays of Mt. Vernon and Dottie Boyd of Maryland Heights, Mo.

He was preceded in death by his mother, his grandparents and a brother, Jimmy Frost.

Paul became a member of the Teamsters Union in 1942 and drove trucks for Viking Freight Company, Automobile Shippers and Gordon’s Transport. He retired in 1977, but continued to stay active by driving the school bus for Rome Grade School for many years. He also served his community through service at his church, Dix United Methodist.

Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. Wednesday at Osborn Funeral Home in Dix with the Rev’s Murriel Nance, Alice True and Molly Hawk officiating. Burial will follow at Hopewell Cemetery where graveside military rites will be accorded by American Legion Post 141. Friends may call from 5 to 8 p.m. today at the funeral home.

In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to Dix United Methodist Church, SSM Hospice or Angels on Assignment--a mission of Mt.
