Doris (Harrison) Crowder Stover
Doris Crowder Stover, 79, of Mt. Vernon died 1:25 p.m. Jan. 24, 2005, at Nature Trail Health Care Center. She first worked for Mode-O-Day garment factory and the shoe factory. She later was head of the craft department at Dobbs. Mrs. Stover was born Jan. 9, 1926, in Jefferson County to Charles Edward and Stella Jane (Jones) Harrison. She first married Charles Crowder Sept. 1, 1944, in Jefferson County; he died Aug. 2, 1975 Harrison. She later married James Stover Dec. 3, 1989, in Wayne City; he died Aug. 13, 1994. Funeral services will be held 10 a.m. Wednesday in the chapel at Mt. Vernon Memorial Gardens. The Rev. Garlin Burris will officiate. Burial will follow at Mt. Vernon Memorial Gardens. Those attending the services are asked to go directly to the chapel Wednesday morning. Friends may call from 5 to 8 p.m. today at Hughey Funeral Home in Mt. Vernon. Mrs. Stover is survived by daughters Jane Banes and husband Elbert of Mt. Vernon and Judy Crowder of Mt. Vernon; grandchildren Terry Crowder and wife Gena of Newport Richey, Fla., Amanda Garrison and husband Kevin of Woodlawn, Charles Banes and wife Jennifer of Mt. Vernon and Andrew Banes of Mt. Vernon; five great-grandchildren; a brother, Oren Harrison and wife Maxine of Murphysboro; a sister, Dorothy Henry of Mt. Vernon; a stepson, Brent Stover and wife Cindy of Bluford; a stepdaughter, Denise Davis and husband Bob of Bluford; and several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, both husbands, a great-grandson, three brothers and three sisters. Mrs. Stover was of the Presbyterian faith. She was a member of the Mt. Vernon Eagles, Moose Lodge and the Veterans of Foreign Wars. For those who wish, memorials may be made to St. Mary’s Good Samaritan Hospice and will be accepted at the funeral home or may be mailed to Hughey Funeral Home, P.O. Box 721, Mt. Vernon, IL 62864.
