Vada L. (Carter) Strain
Vada L. Strain, 85, of Mt. Vernon, passed away at 1:52 p.m. Monday, Jan. 26, 2009, at St. Mary's Good Samaritan Hospital in Mt. Vernon. She was born in Naylor, Mo., on Oct. 6, 1923, a daughter of Jesse and Effie (Langley) Carter. She married Charles Strain on Dec. 21, 1939, in Poplar Bluff, Mo., and he preceded her in death on Dec. 21, 1989. Funeral services will be held 1 p.m. Wednesday at the Johnston Funeral Home in Mt. Vernon with the Rev. Helen Wheeler officiating. Burial will follow at Kirk Cemetery in Ina. Friends may call from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home. Mrs. Strain is survived by a son, Frank Strain of Mt. Vernon; a daughter, Trava Jo Campbell and husband Billy Joe of Mt. Vernon; a daughter-in-law, Lou Ella Strain of Mt. Vernon; 10 grandchildren, 16 great-grandchildren and several great-great-grandchildren; one brother, Carl Carter and wife Betty of Kalamazoo, Mich.; and one sister, Ava Lane of Kalamazoo, Mich. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, one son, one granddaughter, four brothers and two sisters. Mrs. Strain was of the Church of God faith.
