Charles G. Strattan

Chas. G. Strattan, Retired Railroad Engineer, Dies

Charles G. Strattan of 211 S. Sixth street, a retired railroad engineer and a veteran of the Spanish-American War, died at 6:20 p.m. Thursday at the Veterans Hospital in Danville, Ill. His age, was 72 years, seven months and 16 days.

Funeral services will be held Sunday at 2:00 p.m. at Myers Chapel with the Rev. Payne Wilson officiating and burial will be in Oakwood cemetery.

Military services, in charge of the Veterans of Foreign Wars, will be conducted at the grave.

Mr. Strattan was born April 22, 1877 in Mt. Vernon, the son of Benjamin C. and Adellia (Gregg) Strattan.

On January 30, 1902 he was married in Princeton, Ind., to Lucy Sibert, who survives.

For many years Mr. Strattan served as an engineer for the Southern Railway Co.

He was a member of the Brotherhood of Locomotive Engineers. He served as a corporal with Co. F, 4th Illinois Volunteers, in the Spanish-American War.

Mr. Strattan was a member of the First Methodist church here.

Besides his wife, he is survived by one daughter, Mrs. Gertrude Perry of LaPorte, Ind.; a brother, Roy T. Strattan of Mt. Vernon ; and four grandchildren.

A son, Gregg Strattan preceded him in death in April, 1943.
