William Eugene "Gene" Sursa
William Eugene "Gene" Sursa, 79, Mt. Vernon, died 4:42 am May 15, 1994, at Good Samaritan Regional Health Center. Mr. Sursa owned and operated Fair Feed Co., for several years and later was a truck driver for Southern Illinois Asphalt Co., until retirement. He was born June 6, 1914, in Jefferson County, a son of Henry E. and Alice (Hogue) Sursa. August 15, 1937, in Mt. Vernon, he married Wilma P. Hopper, who survives. Services will be 10:30 am Tuesday at Hughey Funeral Home with the Rev. Ron Davis officiating. Burial will be in Hopewell Cemetery. Friends may call from 5 to 8 pm today at Hughey Funeral Home. In addition to his wife, Mr. Sursa is survived by a daughter, Peggy Lisenbey and husband Gene of Iuka; a grandson, Steven Lisenbey of Iuka; a brother, Edward "Ed" Sursa and wife Edith of Mt, Vernon; a sister, Norma Lee Pace and husband Andy of Mt. Vernon; and several nieces and nephews. Mr. Sursa was a Navy veteran of World War II in the Seebee's. He was a member of T eamsters Local Union 50 of Centralia. Mr. Sursa was preceded in death by his parents, three sisters, Wilma Marcum, Maxine Culli and Betty Askew, and a brother, Howard Sursa.
