Doris D. Taaka, 76, of Mt. Vernon, died at 7:17 a.m. on May 22, 2007, at St. Mary’s Good Samaritan Hospital in Mt. Vernon.

She was born on Nov. 11, 1930, in Pottawatomie County, Okla. to Joe Tucker and Mary (Gibson)Tucker.

She was a LPN and worked at St. Mary’s Good Samaritan Hospital and later at Crossroads Hospital, both in Mt. Vernon, until she retired.

Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. Friday at Hughey Funeral Home in Mt. Vernon with Rev. Bill Miller officiating. Visitation will be from 5 to 7 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home. Interment will be at Bethel Memorial Cemetery in Mt. Vernon.

Doris is survived by her husband, Paul Taaka of Mt. Vernon; two sons, Rick Taaka and wife Sheila and Scott Taaka and wife Karen, all of Mt. Vernon; a daughter, Kris Buttrum and husband Bob of Bluford; six grandchildren and four great grandchildren.

Her parents, one brother, and two sisters preceded her in death.

Doris was a charter member of the Casey Avenue Baptist Church.
