Henry Duard Tate, 85, of Mt. Vernon died 2:10 p.m. Feb. 26, 2005, at St. Mary's Good Samaritan Hospital in Mt. Vernon. He was a retired welder at Stove Foundry.

Mr. Tate was born Jan. 15, 1920, in Palmer, Tenn., to Lester and Ella (Cookston) Tate.

He married Dorothy Mae (Turner) Tate July 16, 1952, in Rossville, Ga.; she survives.

Funeral services will be held 1 p.m. Tuesday at Hughey Funeral Home. The Rev. Chuck Ellis will officiate. Burial will follow at Mt. Vernon Memorial Gardens Cemetery. Military flag presentation will be conducted by the chaplain of Mt. Vernon American Legion Post 141. Friends may call from 5 to 8 p.m. today at Hughey Funeral Home in Mt. Vernon.

Mr. Tate is survived by his wife, Dorothy Mae Tate of Mt. Vernon; sons Terry Lee Tate and wife Carol of Mt. Vernon, Charles Edward Tate of Mt. Vernon and Tommy Carroll of Gatlinburg, Tenn.; daughters Sheila Kay Odle and husband Randy of Mt. Vernon and Helen Kluck and husband John of Mt. Vernon; grandchildren Jim Odle and wife Angel, Randy D. Odle and wife Christina, Charles Tate, Robert Tate, Johnny Kluck, Robby Kluck, Lisa Luth, Douglas Carroll, Sandy Burris and husband Jim and Kimberly Bigham; 16 great-grandchildren; brothers Lloyd "Pete" Tate and wife Norma of Dix, J.B. Tate of Mt. Vernon and Robert "Dewey" Tate and wife Betty of Mt. Vernon; sisters Naomi Cullens of Bradley, Bonnie Kluck and husband Jack of Ina and Grace Smith and husband Maurice of Mt. Vernon; and several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents and five sisters, Zada Orrick, Jesse Morrison, Lois Hayes, Evelyn Ziarnek and Geneva Tate.

Mr. Tate was a member of Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 1376 and Disabled American Veterans. He served in the United States Army from Jan. 22, 1942, to Oct. 10, 1945, serving in the Philippines.
