Larkin Thomas

L. H. THOMAS, one of the oldest, best known citizens of Shiloh Township, died yesterday afternoon at 3 o'clock at his home north of Woodlawn. Mr. THOMAS had been in poor health several months and death is attributed to a general breakdown.

Mr. THOMAS was born in Tennessee, and came to Jefferson County more than 50 years

ago. He was twice married and is survived by his present wife and three children as follows: Mrs. Wm. C. REECE, Mt. Vernon; Hiram THOMAS, Shiloh Township, and Mrs. Laura ALLEN, Bloomington, IL.

Mr. THOMAS lived near Webb, and engaged principally in "truck gardening," he leased most of his land to tenants, retaining only so much as he desired for melons and vegetables.

He was well known to many Mt. Vernon people who bought melons, vegetables, etc., from him which he peddled about town for many years.

Notwithstanding his extreme age he worked about the farm until some months ago when failing health rendered his physical condition such he was obliged to give up. Prior to that time he had enjoyed remarkably good health.

Funeral services for Mr. THOMAS will be held at the Webb Church at 11 o'clock Sunday morning and burial will follow in the Odd Fellows' Cemetery at Woodlawn.
