Floyd (Tompy) Thompson, 65, of 108 Robinson, died at 5 p.m. yesterday (June 18, 1967) in Lake View Memorial where he had been a patient since June 7 when he was injured in a fall at his home.

He was a former Danville High School and Wabash College athlete. Coroner Ralph Sargent is conducting an inquiry to determine the exact cause of death. He had resided at the Robinson address six years and most of his life in Danville.

Born July 27, 1901, at Mt. Vernon, Illinois, he was the son of William John and Pearl Jennie (Jackson) Thompson.

His schooling was at Mt. Vernon and Garfield Grade School and he was graduated from Danville High in 1921. He was captain of the Danville High basketball team 1919-1920-1921. He was graduated in 1926 from Wabash College at Crawfordsville, Indiana, where he was a letterman in basketball, baseball and track. He was former sports editor of The Morning Press and taught and coached at Rankin High School. He was later advertising manager of the K&S department store and later the J.C. Penny store. He served 11 years as educational therapist at the Veterans Administration Hospital, retiring January 1, 1967.

Surviving are a brother, Frank D. Thompson of Denver, Colorado, and a sister, Mrs. Ben (Ruby) Burt of Danville.

He was preceded in death by his parents and a brother, Roy.

Mr. Thompson was a member of St. James Methodist Church and the Phi Delta Beta Fraternity. He was a former member of Anchor Masonic Lodge 930.

He was an Army veteran of World War II. His hobby was sports.

Services will be at 1:30 p.m. Tuesday at the Pape Memorial Home. The Rev. C. Earl Livengood and the Rev. J.T. Myers will officiate. Burial will be in Spring Hill Cemetery. Friends will be received at the funeral home 7-9 tonight.
