Ruth D. Thompson
"Ruth D. Thompson, 86, 115 N. 13th Street, and late of Nature Trail Nursing Home, died at 5 a.m. today in the nursing home. She was employed at the Mt. Vernon Register News for 35 years. Mrs. Thompson was born in Waltonville, January 3, 1897, the daughter of John David and Olive Luna (Gilbert) Dodds. On April 23, 1918 in Mt. Vernon, she married Charles J.Thompson, who died November 16, 1959. Funeral services will be held at 1:30 p.m. Thursday at the Hughey Funeral Home with the Rev. William Cuaser officiating. Burial will follow in Oakwood Cemetery. Friends may call after 6 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home. Survivors include two sons, Robert K. Thompson and his wife, Marian, of Mt. Vernon and William D. Thompson and his wife, Alma "Paka", of Warrensburg, Missouri; five grandchildren, Mrs. Charlotte Suhler of Darien, Connecticut; Mrs. Deb Dixon of Breese, Charles R. Thompson of New York City, Libby Thompson of Lee's Summit, Missouri, and Sally Thompson of Minneapolis; five great-grandchildren, and one sister, Mrs. Anna Reid of Centralia. Mrs. Thompson was a member of the First Community Church, the Order of Eastern Star Chapter No. 233 and the Daughters of the American Revolution. She was a lifetime member of the American Legion Auxiliary and a past president of the American Legion Auxiliary and the Mt. Vernon Woman's Club. Mrs. Thompson was preceded in death by three sisters and two brothers."
