Thelma L. Thornton, 93, of Dix died 10:22 a.m. Feb. 4, 2004, at St. Mary's Good Samaritan Hospital in Mt. Vernon.

Mrs. Thornton was born June 17, 1910, in Shiloh Township, Jefferson County to Charles Oliver "Ollie" and Ethel (Piercy) Sargent.

She married Hershel Thornton; he preceded her in death April 27, 1974.

Funeral Services will be held 11 a.m. Saturday at Osborn Funeral Home in Dix. The Rev. Arnold Peterson will officiate. Burial will follow at Pleasant Hill Cemetery.

Friends may call from 5 to 7 p.m. Friday at Osborn Funeral Home in Dix.

Mrs. Thornton is survived by a daughter, Janet Diel and husband Fred of Dix; granddaughters JoNell Kase and husband Christopher of Washington, Mo. and Erin Diel of Murray Ky.; a nephew; and eight nieces.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; three brothers, Gene, Bill and Stanley Sargent; and a sister, Mabel Hails.

Mrs. Thornton was a member of Pleasant Hill Baptist Church.
