Fred Toney
Fred TONEY, the twelve-year-old son of John W. Toney of this city, was run over and instantly killed last Tuesday afternoon by an L.and N. switch engine. He was playing on the railroad tracts when the afternoon passenger went by, and after it had passed stepped onto the main tract with his face toward the departing train, when a switch engine, pushing a box car ahead of it, preventing the engineer from seeing the boy, run over him, completely severing his head and one arm from his body.
