Gladys Bernice O'DELL TYHURST passed away on June 16, 2007, at River Regions Hospice Hospital in River Ridge, La., at the age of 88.

She was born in the Blairsville community of Hamilton County, the daughter of Mabel and Loren O'DELL and granddaughter of Clint O'DELL.

She was a graduate of Mt. Vernon Township High School and worked for Magnolia Oil Company before relocating to New Orleans to work for Mobile Oil Co. There she married William "Bill" TYHURST who was in the Air Force, and she lived in California and Guam where she worked for the U.S. government. She later lived in Senegal, Africa and Norway.

She returned to Illinois where she and Bill later lived in Blairsville and Mt. Vernon. For the past few years she has resided at Chateau Living Center in Kenner, La.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Mabel and Loren O'DELL; her husband, William TYHURST; a sister, Alice O'DELL EDSON; and a stepson, David TYHURST.

She is survived by her brother-in-law, Herb EDSON of Covington, La.; a niece, Diana PORTER: great-nephews, Mike and Matt PORTER; great-great-nephews Grant and Tyler PORTER, and Connor and Killian DUNN, all of Birmingham, Ala.; stepdaughter Suzanne TALLEY and stepsons Bob, John and Mike TYHURST, all of the Kansas City area.

Visitation will be from 5 to 7 p.m. Wednesday at Hughey Funeral Home in Mt. Vernon. Graveside services will be conducted by the Rev. John O'DELL at Kirk Cemetery near Ina at 1 p.m. Thursday. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to River Regions Hospice, 12715 Highway 90, Luling, La. 70070.
