Herman Jacob Wagner
Herman Jacob Wagner, 77, of Scheller, died Saturday at 11 p.m. at Good Samaritan hospital. Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. Tuesday at St. Barbara's Catholic church in Scheller, with the Rev. Joseph Wieczorek officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery. Friends may call at the Fry Funeral Home in Waltonville after 2 p.m. today. The Rosary will be recited at 8:15 tonight. Mr. Wagner was born on July 4, 1898 in Scheller, the son of Frank and Magdalena (Kerry) Wagner. On Sept. 10, 1929, he married Helen Gajewski, who survives. Mr. Wagner served for nine years on the Waltonville Shcool Board and 18 years on the Farm Bureau Board. He was a Jefferson county HIA director, a member of the Knights of Columbus in DuBois, the DuQuoin Assembly, and was a member of Modern Woodmen of America for 50 years. Besides his wife, Mr. Wagner is survived by three sons, James Wagner, Scheller, Walter Wagner, Scheller, and Charles Wagner DuQuoin; two daughters, Mrs. Dorothy Suchomski, Pinckneyville, and Mrs. Elizabeth Wynn, DuQuoin; one brother George Wagner, Scheller; and 18 grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents and one brother. Mr. Wagner lived all of his life on a farm purchased by his grandfather in 1881.
