Lydia (Ridgway) Castles Warren

Mrs. Lydia Warren, wife of D. C. Warren, died, at the family residence, in this city, on Tuesday morning the 6th inst., of pneumonia.

She had resided in Mt. Vernon for forty-five years.

She was born in Carmi, Ill., Sept. 8, 1818, and was in the 68th year at the time of her death.

She was sister to Hon. Thomas S. Ridgway and George A. Ridgway, of Shawneetown, and of Mrs. Judge Scates, of Chicago.

She was married to Mr. Robert Castles in 1838, and moved to this place in 1840, where Mr. Castles died, on the 25th of September, 1846, leaving her with three children, now Mrs. Emma Higgins, of Chicago; Mrs. Judith Nicholson, of Evansville, and Robert Castles, residing in Columbus, Ohio.

Oct. 30th 1848, she was married to Mr. D. C. Warren, who, with, their four children -- Carroll, Thomas, Claude, and Mrs. Ed. Sprague --survives, to mourn their irreparable loss.

The funeral was preached at M.E. church, Thursday, at 2:30 p.m. by Rev. O. H. Clark, assisted by Rev. Jos. Harris, and her remains were deposited at Union Cemetery.

Mrs. Warren was of a naturally amiable disposition. "None knew her but to love her,"and those loved her most who know her best. How much her children will miss her visits, where she has been so often hailed with delight; and how lonely will that home appear no longer lightened by her presence. The poor will miss her, and long will her vacant seat at church remind us that she worships at a holier shrine.
