Thomas Jefferson Webber

LAST MEMBER OF OLD FAMILY DIED HERE LAST NIGHT

Jeff Webber, Well Known and Highly Respected Citizen Dies in This City, Funeral Services Tomorrow Afternoon

Thomas Jefferson Webber, generally known to his friends as Jeff Webber, died last night. Mr. Webber's death came as a great surprise and shock to his friends as he was up and about as usual last Saturday, and many of his friends talked with him down town on that day.

Mr. Webber's age was 72 years, five months and six days, at time of death. He had been a resident of Mt. Vernon 65 years.

The body was taken to Myers Chapel, 122 North Tenth street and prepared for burial, where it will remain until the funeral which will be held in the Second Baptist church Wednesday at two o'clock p.m. Burial will follow in the Odd Fellows' cemetery at Opdyke.

The Register-News has been furnished the following:

T.J. "Jeff" Webber died last night at 11:25 at 501 Herbert street, where he was making his home. He had been suffering with cancer and other ailments for sometime, but was bedfast only since last Saturday. He was a well known citizen in this locality, having spent most of his life in Jefferson county.

He moved to Mt. Vernon soon after he was married and spent practically the rest of his life here.

He was employed at the Mt. Vernon Car Manufacturing Co. until about six or seven years ago, having worked in the shop about 35 years.He was well known for his honesty and uprightness. He was the youngest son of Frank and Lydia Webber, in their day a well known couple. Jeff was the last member of a highly respected old family. He had two sisters and two brothers, namely, Charles, Edward, Amanda and Adah. Adah died several years ago, being only 19 years of age at the time of her death, and Edward, Charles and Amanda died in the last 14 months. After Charley's health began to fail, Jeff went to live with him and after Ed's death, Amanda made her home with the two brothers. After the death of both Charley and Amanda, Jeff came back to Mt. Vernon and roomed until the time of his death.

He was united in marriage to Miss Alice Eskew, May 26, 1890 and to this union were born five children, as follows: John, Clara, William, Nellie and Raymond Everett.

His wife died March 7, 1907 and Raymond Everett died soon after.

Mr. Webber is survived by two sons and two daughters, John, William, Clare and Nellie, all of Mt. Vernon.

He also leaves seven grandchildren and a host of friends who will miss his cheerful smile. Although he had suffered greatly the last few months he was of a cheerful disposition and never complained of his condition. THe funeral services will be conducted by the Rev. C.W. Maulding.
