EDWARD WELLS DIES AT 88 ON BONNIE FARM Member of Jefferson County Pioneer Family Had Been Blind 10 Years Edward Wells, member of a pioneer Jefferson county family, died at midnight last night at his home near Bonnie on the farm which his family has owned for more than 100 years. He was 88 years, three months and three days of age. Mr. Wells had been critically ill for several days and was attended by his wife who is 86. He was the last of the family of nine children of the pioneers William and Lucy Farthing Wells. All but one of the family lived past 75 years. He was born April 8, 1851, within a half mile of the place where he died. He was married February 8, 1874 to Matilda Lynch and their entire married life was spent on the same farm. Funeral services will be held at South Hickory Hill church Wednesday afternoon at two o'clock and burial will be in the cemetery nearby. Mr. Wells is survived by his widow and five children: Mrs. James Shelton, Bonnie; Mrs. Dave C.Campbell of Waltonville; J.R. Wells and Erie Wells of Bonnie and Terrell Wells of Mt. Vernon. Also surviving are 16 grand children and eight great grand children. Although blind for the past ten years he continued to take an active interest in the life of his community. During his active years he engaged extensively in farming and stock raising. He was an honest and unpretentious citizens known for his willingness to lend a helping hand. Mr. Wells died 1939.
