Ella Olive (McPherson) Wells

Ella Olive Wells, daughter of Thomas M. and Laura A. McPherson, was born March 14, 1888, at Pierce City, Mo. In infancy she was brought by her parents to Jefferson County, Illinois, where she resided the remainder of her life.

She passed away at the home of Fred R. Baker at Mt. Vernon, Illinois, at 10:05 p.m. February 21, 1944.

In girlhood days she attended grade school at West Salem near the old home just west of Mt. Vernon.

She was united in marriage to David P. Wells, December 15, 1912. To this happy union a daughter, Mrs. Erma I. Baker, now 27 years of age, was born. She and her step-son, Carl Leland Wells, were as devoted one to another as only a mother and a son could be.

She spent a life of devotion and self sacrifice for her relatives, loved ones, and friends, thinking more of their welfare than her own. She was a zealous and untiring worker in the Church of Christ at Waltonville, having served as teacher of children's class for some time before and until her illness of about two months duration prevented her.

She leaves to mourn her departure a husband, David P. Wells, of Waltonville, one daughter, Erma, wife of Fred R. Baker of Mt. Vernon, Illinois. One step-son, Carl Leland Wells, his wife Aline, and their son Leland D., two grandchildren, Fred R. Baker, Jr., and little Norella Baker, an aged mother, who at this time is at the point of death, four brothers and three sisters, besides a host of other relatives and friends.
